Kenya is one of the countries that has been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic. All the learning institutions were closed down indefinitely by President Uhuru Kenyatta from the Primary Level to the University level as a way of controlling the spread of the virus.
The Cabinet Secretary of Education Professor Magoha finally gave parents and students some good news on the issue of the reopening of schools according to the statement that he released on 12/05/2020.He formed a team of ten members who will be headed by the Chairperson of the Kenya Institute of Curriculum development who is Sarah Ruto.
The committee was selected in order to explore all the possible ways in which the Education sector can be revived in the country after the setback by the coronavirus pandemic. The committee will also be responsible for advising the Ministry of Education on the possible reopening of schools, reviewing and adjusting the school calendar that has already been affected due to the many weeks of learning that have been lost by the students. Apart from that the committee will also draft a document containing all the lessons learnt from the pandemic and the recommendations given for future reference if a similar pandemic hits the country again.
All Kenyans will now be looking up to the recommendations that the committee will present to the Ministry of Education concerning the reopening of schools which has become a subject of discussion in the country ever since the schools were closed down as a measure of curbing the spread of the virus.
